I'm hoping that the API for QVR Pro will be extended as the software matures to allow more control over recording schedules and other features that I believe are available in Surveillance Station. I'm currently working on a component for Home Assistant so the feeds from QVR Pro can be used there. I figure this will be improved in future app versions, but haven't opened a ticket as it is only a slight inconvenience. Dragging/zooming the timeline is also seen as a touch event, which results in the view changing.
On iOS, the timeline touch events need to be improved.

The play head doesn't snap to the event reliably, so I have to zoom in to make the event larger to allow positioning the play head directly within the event. On my Mac, it is somewhat tricky to click a specific event for playback. My only other "issue" is with the QVR client software. The second beta they sent fixed the problem and my events have been reliably recording ever since. After support poked around and confirmed that it was a bug, they escalated the ticket to their developers who had me test 2 different beta versions of QVR Pro. This did not work when I initially configured it, so I opened a support ticket. My cameras don't support motion events, so I had to setup URL triggered events for QVR to do event recording. I have not used Surveillance Station, so I can't offer any comparison to that software. Currently, I only have 3 cameras set for motion record, but will add more in the future. I use QVR Pro for my NVR on a TS-877 NAS. QNAP Surveillance Station QVR viewer alternative Currently running 7 IP. Again, recent updates have taken the software from "unusable" to "very functional." rtorrent is an high performance and extra featured bittorrent client combined. QVR Pro seems to do the job and is actively being updated.
It is also the "old" QNAP NVR approach and I thought it made more sense to look at their forward looking solution. I started to set up the QNAP "Surveillance Station" a few months back but stopped short of using it. Depending on your specific needs, one may offer an advantage in this area. If considering Synology vs QNAP, don't forget to look at the two systems approach to licensing. I have not used any Synology products and have no basis for comparison. I agree with the poster who mentioned it being tricky to select specific events on the timeline. Support has known about this since at least last summer and the problem has persisted through all updates. If you try to quit with unsaved changes, a "do you want to save" dialog appears and the software locks up. Motion event are, so far, working as expected for me. This seems to have addressed most of my issues. There is a new version of QVR Pro available (1.2.1). They were never able to find the cause of my motion detection problems. QNAP tech support told me to avoid using QVR Pro client as much as possible because it was such a resource hog. My cameras are all on the compatibility list, yet there were many issue with motion detection. CPU usage would often max out and was likely the cause of frequent camera disconnects. Running the client software was very resource intensive.
